MONDAY:
Intermediate Wheel Throwing

Take your wheel throwing skills to the next level. Demonstrations of more complex forms such as covered jars, pitchers, vases, and teapots, coupled with personal constructive evaluation will be included. Explore studio glazes and techniques that will enhance your work.

Hand-building is a great way to learn about clay and the wide range of possibilities it offers. Students in this class will become familiar with the basic methods of construction: pinch, coil, and slab, to create functional and decorative wares in clay. Various surface texturing and glazing techniques will be explored to allow individual creativity and pursuits. All levels are welcome

Basic wheel throwing techniques will be emphasized from centering to shaping a vessel to create various forms such as bowls, plates, etc. Glazing techniques will also be shown to finish your work. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced potter, you are welcome to join this class.

The goal of this class is to inspire you to learn new techniques and to help hone your throwing skills. The session will start with basic cylinders that will turn into mugs, vases, and closed forms. Basic bowl shapes will become matching sets, composite forms, and large covered dishes. Along the way, we will introduce variations in embellishment, surface design, and glazing. Our goal is to have a creative and stimulating class.
Ages 16 & up | $300 | 8 weeks


WEDNESDAY:
Sculpture/Hand-building in Clay

Instructor: Julia Vogelle

Using the three methods of hand-building: pinch, coil and slab, students will develop strong techniques to create life-size clay portraits and scaled pieces in stoneware. Students will also be creating functional pieces such as vases, containers, platters and various ceramic ware. This is a course that combines both hand-building and sculpture techniques.

CLAY TRY DAY:
Friday, March 13  Class is Full!
7:00pm – 9:00pm

This is your chance to try out using the pottery wheel or to create something hand-built. Perhaps Try-Day will inspire you to become a potter. This is a great opportunity to see if working with clay is something you would like to pursue!

Ages 16 & up | $40 | 2 Hours – One hour of wheel and one hour of hand-building



* Class Level /Skills Recommended

A. Intro to Wheel /Foundation: No experience needed. Repetition recommended
B. Advanced Beginner: wedging, centering, opening, pulling a cylinder and/or small bowl
C. Intermediate: all of B; larger vessels, lids/ spouts/ handles, trimming, fundamentals of glazing
D. Advanced: all of C; bottles, plates, composite forms, throwing off the hump

Cancellation Policy
*A $50 cancellation fee is charged if a student withdraws less than 1 week from the start of classes.
Once the class session has started no refunds will be issued.
**Tuition fees may not be transferred to another class.
