Hand-building Techniques
Instructor: Laura Peters
Ages 16 & up |$405| 8 weeks

In this course, traditional hand-building techniques will be used to create functional and non-functional forms. Students will also learn techniques to achieve exciting surface finishes on their pieces.

Handbuilding

Using the three methods of hand-building: pinch, coil, and slab, students
will develop strong techniques to create pieces in stoneware. Students will
create functional pieces such as vases, containers, platters, and ceramic
wares.

Combo – Wheel and Sculpture
Instructors: Karen Barley & Julia Vogelle
Class dates: 9/2, 9/9, 9/16, 9/23, 9/30, 10/7, 10/14, 10/21

This class is an intermediate to advanced wheel class with a focus on additional sculpture techniques in clay. Strong structural Design, color, texture, and balance will be implemented into each lesson.
Students must be proficient on the wheel.

Class Level /Skills Recommended

A. Intro to Wheel /Foundation: No experience needed. Repetition recommended
B. Advanced Beginner: wedging, centering, opening, pulling a cylinder and/or small bowl
C. Intermediate: all of B; larger vessels, lids/ spouts/ handles, trimming, fundamentals of glazing
D. Advanced: all of C; bottles, plates, composite forms, throwing off the hump

Class Registration and Cancellation Policy

A class registration canceled less than two weeks before the start of a new session will incur a $150 cancellation fee. Efforts will be made to refill the vacant spot. A $50 administrative fee will be deducted from the refund if the spot is successfully filled.

Please note that refunds are not available once a class session has begun.

Non-Transferable Tuition Fees

Tuition fees are non-transferable to another class.

Missed Classes and Make-Up Policy

The Brick Clay Studio and Gallery is not responsible for providing make-up classes or issuing refunds for students who miss class for any reason.

Vaccination Requirement

All students must provide proof of full vaccination, which means two weeks after receiving a two-dose vaccine or two weeks after receiving a one-dose vaccine. The CDC vaccination card or the NY Excelsior Pass will be used to verify vaccination status. Masks are optional.

Holiday Schedule

The Brick will be closed on the following holidays:

  • Memorial Day
  • July 4th
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day
  • New Year’s Day

Make-up classes for these holidays will be offered during the 9th week of the session.

Inclement Weather Policy

While The Brick will make every effort to reschedule canceled classes due to inclement weather, please note that rescheduling is not guaranteed due to the pre-scheduled calendar.
